The discussion was organized by the
Committee on Family Matters, Youth Policy, Sports and Tourism and International
Public Organization "Dialogue Eurasia Platform."
The People´s Deputies of Ukraine, scientists, representatives of the executive power, public organizations of Ukraine and Turkey too part in the "round table discussion.
Participants of the meeting discussed the issues regarding the fighting violence in the families, Ukrainian family values in the light of the European processes, strengthening of the family institute in the Ukrainian society, children protection in the families, elucidation of the family values in Ukrainian mass media etc.
Borys Tarasiuk, the Chairman of the Committee pointed out the attention to the historic facts that proves ancient connections between the two states regarding the development of the family values, in particular he pointed the attention to the fact that four Ukrainian women were married to the sultans and paid certain role in the formation of the family values in Turkish society.
According to B. Tarasiuk, the family values in Ukraine and Turkey are similar in origin though have the divergent peculiarities of development one the one hand Christian values, on the other hand the Islamic ones.
He emphasised that in the light of
the attempts of both countries to gain membership in EU, it is necessary to
take into the consideration the existing standards defined by EU principal
documents. First of all it is UNO Convention on the Elimination of all forms of
Discrimination Against Women, passed in 1980 and also
European Social Charter, European Convention on Protection of Human Rights, etc.
Dursun Ayal, the Deputy Chairman of the Department of Family Matters and Social Investigations of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Turkey indicated that in the light of the cooperation between Ukraine and Turkey on way to the European Union it is extremely necessary to pay attention to the social and cultural problems. He also declared that Turkey is working on the certain changes in the family system before entering EU though it is quite complicated process.
